The right boxes can help you maximize your storage space and keep things organized. What are some things to think about when choosing boxes for storage? Here is some information you’ll find very useful.
Storage boxes should ideally be made from sturdy cardboard that has no tears, rips, or holes. C-flute is the most common type of corrugated cardboard, and is around 5/32″ thick. This makes it strong enough to hold most household goods such as linens, books, or dishes.
BC flute is a “double wall” type of cardboard that is around ¼” thick, and capable of holding very heavy objects. This type of box would be ideal for packing fragile or breakable items in. Avoid B-flute boxes, as they are much thinner and can therefore hold very little weight.
Your box should not be so big that you must struggle to pick it up. One that is around 2′ x 2′ x 18″ will hold bulkier items such as comforters, yet still be lightweight enough to carry. Use smaller boxes that are around 16″ x 10″ x 10″ for heavy items like books or glassware.
Try to keep your boxes as uniform as possible. For example, use only one size “large” box, one size “medium” box and so on. Doing will make it easier for you to stack them inside your storage unit.
Labeling your boxes on all sides will make it easy for you to find what you are looking for. As such, you should avoid boxes that already have labels or writing on them. If your boxes do have labels or writing, remove or cover them over if possible.
