Almost everyone has experienced the aggravation of not being able to find a particular tool in the garage or a storage unit. The reason is that too many people regard such storage areas as a place to put junk in willy-nilly with no thought of organizing. However, with a little forethought, one can organize things so that one can find a tool or anything else in a garage or storage unit almost at a glance.
The first thing one should do is to install shelves. A few shelves lined against the walls will do wonders for putting things where one can find them. Shelves also save space. A garage or storage unit filled with junk sometimes makes areas hard to access.
One should also consider buying a few of those huge, plastic storage bins to put things in. Storage bins stack easily. Placing them on the aforementioned selves will also make them easy to access.
Be sure to label the shelves and storage bins. Labels will save a lot of time searching for tools and other items such as nails, screws, bolts, and so on that are useful for do-it-yourself home improvement projects.
Place larger tools such as rakes, shovels, lawnmowers, and edgers out of the way and not in the middle of the floor of your garage or storage unit. Accessibility is the key to finding what you need in a timely fashion.
Consider putting a table in the middle of your garage or storage unit. Do not stack too many things on the table to cut down on having to move things around to find what one needs.
Finally, be choosy about what you put in the garage or storage unit. Is that thing something you might need in the future? If not, it’s junk and should be tossed out rather than put out of sight and out of mind.
